Turnpike Drive (Route 52) in Camden reopens to traffic

CAMDEN — Five days of reconstructive work on Turnpike Drive (Route 52) following the Halloween Storm of 2021, and the road that connects Camden with Lincolnville Center – and beyond – has reopened to traffic, as of 6:15 p.m., November 5.

“MDOT crews and their paving contractor contractor worked longer days — right up until sundown – to get the work done so they could have the road opened before this weekend,” said Camden Fire Chief Chris Farley.

Turnpike Drive, between Beveridge Farm and Maiden Cliff parking lot, washed out and closed in the early morning hours of Oct. 31, following a tremendous rain and wind storm that dumped more than 5.5 inches of rain in the course of several hours in the immediate Midcoast, causing much damage in the local region.

The road is state-owned and is a major commuter route to and from Lincolnville and as an alternate way to Belfast.

“We are pleased with the pace of the work and the commitment of the Maine Dept. of Transportation crews to meet their objective of having the road open before the weekend,” said Farley.
