34th annual Searsmont Library’s Book and Bake Sale to take place Saturday, July 13

The Searsmont Town Library will present its 34th annual Book and Bake Sale on Saturday, July 13, at the Searsmont Community Building from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will also include a Silent Auction, Grandma’s Attic tag sale, a raffle, tours of the Historical Society’s barn, and live music by The Pinwheel Brothers from 10-11:30 a.m.

Children’s activities between 9-10:30 a.m. include an interactive visit with a Searsmont fire truck, the opportunity to meet seeing eye dogs and their trainer, and face painting.

This year, attendees can expect to choose from hundreds of hardcover and paperback books for adults and children at the book sale, and homemade pies, cakes, muffins, cookies, and more at the bake sale.

The Silent Auction will offer beautiful handmade items such as wooden bowls, needlepoint seat cushions and a child-sized quilt, in addition to lots of gift cards from popular local restaurants and businesses.

This year’s Grandma’s Attic tag sale will be presented by Delta Kappa Gamma, a nonprofit that supports the professional growth of women educators; proceeds will go to their cause. Raffle tickets for a rafting trip on the St. George River will be offered.

The acoustic trio The Pinwheel Brothers, known for their jaunty old-time sound, also mix in bluegrass and folk-rock. Band members are songwriter Ben Hatfield on guitar and lead vocals; Phil Mancini on mandolin, banjo, guitar and vocals; and Vic Tredwell on upright bass and vocals.

Proceeds from this fundraising event will support the library’s collection and operations.

The Searsmont Town Library has more than 1,200 patrons from Searsmont, Belmont, Appleton, Morrill, Belfast and other communities.

In addition to its book collection it offers e-books, high-speed computer access, and wifi; exhibits of work by local artists; story hours, music classes and reading programs for children;  the “Live Outside The Library” summer concert series; a seed collecting program; and more. The library accepts donated books year-round for its annual sale; books can be dropped off at the library during its operating hours.
