‘John Singer Sargent: Fashion and Swagger’ to be screened at the Strand, July 9

ROCKLAND — The Strand Theatre will screen John Singer Sargent: Fashion and Swagger as a high-definition Exhibition On Screen presentation on Thursday, July 9, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Working with top international museums and galleries, Exhibition On Screen creates films which offer a cinematic immersion into the world’s best loved art, accompanied by insights from leading historians and arts critics.

John Singer Sargent is known as the greatest portrait artist of his era. What made his ‘swagger’ portraits remarkable was his power over his sitters, what they wore and how they were presented to the audience, according to the Strand, in a news release. Through interviews with curators, contemporary fashionistas and style influencers, Exhibition on Screen’s film will examine how Sargent’s unique practice has influenced modern art, culture and fashion. Filmed at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Tate Britain, London.

Running time is 1 hour 30 minutes.

Tickets: $15/General Admission, $12/Strand Members. To buy tickets, or for more information, visit www.rocklandstrand.com or call (207) 594-0070 EX 3.
