2nd Annual Maine Artist Film Series

Waldo Theatre series about masterful Maine artists begins with Jamie Wyeth film, July 11

WALDOBORO — The Waldo Theatre will host the first of three films about masterful Maine artists. Beginning on Thursday, July 11, at 7 p.m., with Jamie Wyeth and the Unflinching Eye, the film series highlights the work of painter Jamie Wyeth, Painter Carlo Pittore (July 25) and photographer Cig Harvey and artist/filmmaker Ian Cheney (August 8). Each film showing will include a post-screening Q&A with either the Filmmaker, the Artist or both.

The first film in the series is Glenn Holsten's latest film about the life and work of Jamie Wyeth: Jamie Wyeth and the Unflinching Eye. Holsten was in attendance last summer when The Waldo screened his “deeply poignant and beautiful film” Wyeth about Andrew Wyeth.

As the heir to an unparalleled three-generation dynasty in American art, Jamie Wyeth struggles to find his own voice during the colorful turmoil of pop culture and politics from the 1960s to the present. This first feature-length documentary of the artist follows his journey capturing iconic figures like John F. Kennedy, Andy Warhol, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Rudolf Nureyev, as well as his unique, sometimes unsettling, views of domestic life, the islands of Maine and his own personal ghosts.

“Jamie Wyeth and The Unflinching Eye is that rare documentary portrait that takes a living subject and explores the complexity of an artist at work,” says Juno Films CEO Vondah Elizabeth Sheldon. “Fans of Jamie Wyeth will flock to the film and those who are not as well acquainted with his oeuvre will be compelled to seek out his work.”

“We are delighted that Juno Films has acquired our documentary,” says Holsten. “We look forward to working with Vondah Elizabeth to bring the film to audiences, who will discover Jamie’s work on a deeper level.”

The Waldo encourages attendees to come early to enjoy the current exhibit in our gallery. After the film, filmmaker Glenn Holsten will step to the stage for a post-screening Q&A.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Show starts at 7 p.m. Concessions will be available.
