ROCKPORT — Rockport Fire and Police departments, along with NorthEast Mobile Health Services, were called to 29 Porter Street, in Rockport, after a car landed on its roof in the center of the road at approximately 1 p.m.

The teenage driver of the car and his teen passenger were not injured and were able to get out of the car on their own.

Based on the skid marks, the operator had just crested the top of a steep hill from South Street when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed over the opposite lane, went down into a ditch, bumped a tree, and then returned to the pavement where the car turned over.

Speed and driver inexperience are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.

Porter Street reopened to traffic after about an hour.

Camden Exxon hauled away the vehicle.

An hour earlier, personnel from Rockport Fire Department and NorthEast Mobile Health Services had finished the parade route during Thomaston’s Fourth of July celebration.
