Gallery Show and Storytelling Workshop

Storytelling Through Fabric workshop features Jane McLean

SEARSPORT — Carver Memorial Library will host textile artist Jane McLean for a Storytelling Through Fabric workshop on Wednesday, July 17, from 3 - 4:30 p.m. The workshop will be informative and interactive, and is free for participants ages 11 and up.

“We’re excited to offer this workshop as an introduction to both storytelling and fiber arts,” says Sue McClintock, Library Director, in a news release. “We’ll provide the space and the materials, and you don’t need to have any sewing experience.”

McLean’s work will also be on display in the library’s downstairs gallery space. McLean is best known for her Circles of My Life series, a collection of twenty twelve-inch fabric panels that tell the story of her life through color and image that she created in 2022.

“Her pieces are so intricate and detailed that the longer you look, the more there is to see,” said McClintock.

The show will be on display from July 1 to 31 and can be seen during regular library hours.

McLean, who comes from a long line of accomplished needleworkers, works out of her studio, PinchPenny Threads, in Belfast. She regularly shares her passion in workshops and small group presentations for teens and adults, including seminars through the Belfast Senior College. She is a retired speech-language pathologist and special educator, and a lifelong performer.

The library is located at 12 Union Street in Searsport. For more information, please contact Carver Memorial Library staff at (207) 548-2303 or visit the library’s website at https://www.carverlibrary.org/.
