ROCKLAND — A rollover that occurred on lower Pleasant Street, in Rockland, Sunday morning, did not result in any charges for the driver, according to Rockland Police.

The eastbound white Fiat struck a parked red Mercury Mariner, which was parked to the side of the opposite lane, just prior to 4:23 a.m., Sunday, July 2. The Mercury, with Pennsylvania plates, was also facing east. The Fiat’s impact forced the Mariner a few yards further down the road while also forcing the driver’s side tire up onto the sidewalk. At the same time, the momentum and light mass of the white car caused it to lose its center of gravity, resulting in a loss of contact with the pavement and flipping onto its roof in the eastbound lane.

Two occupants were inside the Fiat. The male passenger fled the scene. The female driver remained at the scene, and two other female friends, who were not involved in the crash arrived to keep her company.

The rollover was reported to 911 dispatch by a resident who heard a wracking sound which prompted him to look out his window.

Rockland Police, Fire and EMS responded to the scene.

Camden Exxon hauled away both vehicles and the road was reopened by 5:30 a.m.
