ROCKLAND — Continue your Lobster Festival Celebration on Friday, Aug. 4, at 3 p.m., with some air-conditioned fun, celebrating a New England Book Award finalist.

This new picture book biography is about Rockland's own 103-year-old Virginia Oliver, aka "the Lobster Lady."

Join Virginia Oliver, author Alexandra S. D. Hinrichs, and illustrator Jamie Hogan in a read aloud, followed a meet and greet with its creators and the lobster lady herself.

Kids and adults alike are invited to join the celebration.

Alexandra S. D. Hinrichs is an award-winning author of fiction and nonfiction picture books. A former historical researcher at American Girl, she also has worked in school, public, and academic libraries. She lives in Bangor with her husband, three wild sons, and two tame cats.

Jamie Hogan is an award-winning illustrator of over 20 books, author-illustrator of two books, and educator. She lives on Peaks Island where she enjoys baking donuts and finding flotsam at low tide.

At 103 years old, Virginia Oliver is the oldest person lobstering in Maine — “and maybe even the world!” said Rockland Public Library, in a news release. She has no plan to stop doing what she loves. From growing up in Rockland, to becoming the loving and fiercely independent woman she is today, her life story is as exceptional as she is.
