Elise Brown, of Liberty, announced her candidacy for the position of Waldo County Commissioner in District 3 to represent the towns of Brooks, Burnham, Freedom, Knox, Montville, Morrill, Palermo, Liberty, Searsmont, Thorndike, Troy, and Unity.

Elise has been in local public service since 1994, holding roles in the Liberty community including firefighter, fire chief, EMT, director of Emergency Management, and Budget Committee chair.

At the Waldo County level, Elise Brown has worked closely with the Emergency Management Agency, Sheriff’s Office, Corrections’ Reentry Center, and Regional Communications Center.

Elise co-owns a residential weatherization contracting business with a staff of 40 serving coastal Maine. There she heads the leadership team, information technology, customer service, and marketing.

“I would be proud to become District 3’s next Commissioner,” she said, in a news release. “My business and leadership experience, combined with my three decades of public service give me the ability to do well for Waldo County. I will bring the heart of our local communities and the business know-how of running an organization to bring out the best in our county government.”

She said: “Being a first responder in fire, EMS, and emergency management, I know how important our county departments are to Waldo County residents. Whether it’s calling 911 for an emergency, working through Probate Court after the passing of a loved one, or looking up deed information for a property transaction, people expect and deserve high-quality services.

“I am a bridge-builder and a problem-solver. For the next 10 months, I’m excited to talk with my Waldo County neighbors to hear their priorities and needs related to our county government. If elected, I will work to bring people together to help Waldo County deliver the very best services, while always striving to contain costs.”

She said her primary focus as County Commissioner will be on strengthening Waldo County government’s effectiveness and efficiency, working with the departments to help them build on the quality of their services in a cost-effective manner, and working with municipalities to meet local needs in an ever-changing world.

The Waldo County Board of Commissioners consists of a representative for each of three districts. A Commissioner’s term is four years.

Commissioners oversee the county’s Sheriff’s Office, Corrections (and the Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center), a Regional Communications Center (handling 911 calls), Emergency Management Agency, a local branch of the regional District Attorney’s Office, Registry of Probate, and the Registry of Deeds.

Montville resident Susan Shell is Elise’s campaign manager.

Former Waldo County Sheriff Jeff Trafton, of Thorndike, is her campaign treasurer.
