ROCKLAND — A two-vehicle crash on New County Road (Route 1), that caused moderate damage to both vehicles and sent one driver to the hospital with facial lacerations, turned into a prolonged police investigation.

The Sept. 17, 2024, 2:05 p.m. crash, at the entrance to Maritime Farms, was cleaned up relatively quickly. Yet, long after Creek Hill Towing removed both vehicles from the scene, police remained with the uninjured occupants of the second vehicle. Around 2:55 p.m., at least one of the occupants fled the scene on foot, leaving the nearest officer with a hand injury significant enough to call EMS back to the location to transport him to the hospital.

Since other officers were already on scene, they took over.

One person was arrested and taken to the Knox County Jail.
