Ragtime Emeritus Award to be presented

3rd Annual Glenn Jenks Ragtime Revue goes to Hammer Hall, Oct. 13

CAMDEN — The 3rd Annual Glenn Jenks Ragtime Revue will take place on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m., at Bay Chamber's Hammer Hall, 5 Union St., Camden. In keeping with the tradition of the Harvest Ragtime Revues that Jenks produced in the 1990s, the Ragtime Revue honors the life and legacy of the composer, pianist and musicologist by promoting music through performance, education and scholarships to aspiring musicians.

Hosted by founder and artistic director Aaron Robinson, this year’s Ragtime Revue features the talents of three-time world champion jazz pianist Brian Holland and Grammy-winning drummer Danny Coots performing Hot Ragtime, Stride Piano, Boogie-Woogie, Blues and Early Jazz from the turn of the 20th Century. American archival pianist Corte Swearingen will perform 4-handed ragtime works by Jenks with Robinson. Swearingen will also be on-hand to sign and talk about his latest recording project: “The Complete Ragtime Works for Piano - Vol I. by Glenn Jenks”. The song-and-dance team of Jones & Boyce will perform period dance pieces and songs. Susan Boyce and Brian Jones were longtime collaborators and performers with Glenn Jenks for several decades. Jenks dedicated one of his most beautiful works for ragtime piano to Jones entitled “Sosua”.

The Ragtime Revue will award Susan Boyce with the Glenn Jenks Ragtime Emeritus Award for her many years of performing with Jenks at various ragtime Festivals and Revues. Historian, author and musicologist Larry Melton will receive the Glenn Jenks Lifetime Achievement Award for his life-long devotion and never-ending accomplishments in the world of ragtime. He joins his good friend, the late Max Morath in receiving this award. This year’s 2024 recipients of the Glenn Jenks FUTURE IN MUSIC prize sponsored by Bay Chamber's Young Stars of Maine Program will be presented to Max Bostock, piano and composition. The prize is awarded annually to Maine instrumental, vocal or composition students, age 12-25, who wish to further their studies in the field of music.

The Glenn Jenks Ragtime Revue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
