Midcoast Summer Reading Program at Rockland Public Library

    ROCKLAND — Rockland Public Library announces its Midcoast Summer Reading Program for ages 0 - 18, from June 26 - Aug 9.

    Visit the library today to pick up your registration and summer reading log. 

    You don't need to live in Rockland or have a library card to join. 

    1. Read what you love!
    2. Keep track of your reading in your log.
    3. Visit the library weekly. To earn a weekly prize, starting June 26th, show a librarian your reading log and tell them about the best book or chapters you read that week.
    4. Pass in your reading log by Saturday, Aug. 5th for a chance to win one of our 12 brand new bikes donated by the Knox Lodge #189 Masonic Bikes for Books program.
    5. Visit the Library Aug. 9th, 3-4 PM to celebrate the end of Summer Reading Program with books, lawn & water games, and to find out the winners of the Bikes for Books drawing.
       

    “A huge thank you to the Masonic brothers of Knox Lodge 189 for raising money each year for the Masonic Bikes for Books program,” said RPL, in a news release.. Participating in Summer Reading Program puts your name into the drawing to win one of their 12 bikes.

    “Reading just 20 minutes a day will equal a whopping 14 hours in 6 weeks,” said RPL. “Are you up to the challenge?”

    RPL provides the following Summer Reading Program Events schedule:

     

    Monday, June 26 - August 25

    Free Summer Lunches for kids and teens

    Any kid 18 and under may come by the library anytime between 11:30 and 2:00, and take a healthy lunch for here or to go!

     

    Wednesday, June 28 at 3:00 PM

    STEM Workshop: Exploding Watermelon!

    Outdoor STEM stations including teaming up to explode a watermelon using elastic bands.

     

    Starting June 29 at 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

    Storytime at the Farmers’ Market with assorted library staff and volunteers

     

    Thursday, June 29 at 1:00 PM

    Middle School Book Club (grades 4 - 8) 

    Upcoming 4th graders are now invited to join our group for snacks, book chats, and free books to add to their home collection.

     

    Every Saturday (July 1st - Aug 5th) at 10:30 AM

    All Ages Storytime with Ms. Jenn

    Join Ms. Jenn for music, movement, and crafts. This program is geared toward toddler - early elementary.

    no storytimes July 5th/6th

     

    Starting July 11 , every Tuesday at 10:30 AM

    Toddler Storytime

    Songs, dances, and 3 books with Miss Katie. Siblings welcome. 

     

    Starting July 12, every Weds at 10:30 AM

    Big Kid Storytime

    Pre-K & Elementary kids are invited to songs, stories, and crafts with Miss Katie. Siblings welcome.

    Touch a Fire Truck

    Listen to fire truck stories, and get a tour of a Rockland fire truck with Lieutenant Carl Anderson

     

    Starting July 13 , every Thurs at 10:30 AM

    Baby Time

    Ages 0-2 are invited to join Miss Katie for songs, rhymes, and 1 short story. Followed by social time to meet other families. Siblings welcome.

    Interactive and energetic musical performance on the library lawn

    Portland Stage Workshop

    Dramatic reading of picture books followed by an interactive workshop.

     

    Wednesday, Aug 2 at 1:00-2:00 PM

    Young Adult Herring Gut Learning Experience & Touchtank

    High School and middle school kids are invited to learn about oceanography and sea life.

     

    Wednesday, Aug 2 at 2:30-3:30 PM

    Kids Touchtank with Herring Gut Learning Center

    Elementary and preschool kids are invited to drop by the library to meet some aquatic creatures and learn more about them.

     

    Wednesday, Aug 9 at 3:00 PM

    Lawn Party

    Celebrate the end of Summer Reading with water games, obstacle courses, chalk, and hula hoops. The bikes will be presented to our 12 winners at the party.

     

     

    Adult Summer Readers- in lieu of a formal program there will be a Challenge Yourself bingo sheet. Just pick one up at the library and play at your own pace. No registration or pass-in needed.

     

    “Then stay tuned this fall for our 18+ Winter Reading Program, where we can really get tucked into winter and into reading!” said the release.
