ROCKPORT — John Donald LeRoy Young Jr., age 54, passed away peacefully at PenBay Medical Center on December 8, 2021.

John was born November 6, 1967 at Knox County General Hospital in Rockland, Maine to Judy Shorey and John Young Sr. He graduated from Rockland District High School in 1986.

John is survived by his parents Judy Shorey, John Young Sr. and step mother Kay Burgess; his brothers James and Alden, along with his sister-in-law Holly; his three step siblings Duane Withee, Theresa Withee, and Kara Mallicoate; his three children Nicole, Matthew and daughter-in-law Simone, and Dianna Young; as well as several nieces and nephews.

John was a dedicated worker, and even swore he would work until the day he died. He was a truck driver for many years. Later, for a brief time in 2011, he ran Thomaston Taxi, which included car detailing from his brother Alden behind the Thomaston Police station. For the past seven years, John had been working for Interstate Septic; quickly his work mates became his family.

Many came to know John as a quirky man with a dry sense of humor. John also had an odd sense of charm about him. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and taking trips with friends. John often reveled about his trip to Alaska with one of his childhood friends and dreamed of going back. The cold, however, was a big deterrent to fulfilling that dream.

John will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

There will be no public service scheduled.
