“Telling Our Stories”

Elizabeth Garber, Sheila Polson to lead memoir, nonfiction writing workshop

Event has passed

LINCOLNVILLE — Belfast author Elizabeth Garber will join Sheila Polson in leading “Telling Our Stories,” a memoir and nonfiction writing workshop, on Thursday, June 20, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the Lincolnville Community Library.

What makes a good memoir? What are some of the different ways to tell a story? How might a writer get started? In addition to introducing these questions, Garber will share from her compelling memoirs: Implosion: Memoir of an Architect’s Daughter and Sailing at the Edge of Disaster: A Memoir of a Young Woman’s Daring Year.

Participants may then practice storytelling by writing their own short pieces in response to prompts. Each person will have the chance to read their work and discuss it with the group. This will also be a great opportunity for people to get ideas for projects they might already be working on.

In addition to her two memoirs, both of which received Kirkus starred reviews, Garber has published three books of poetry and her poems have been included in several journals and anthologies.

Polson is a longtime professional editor and writer as well as the retired director of the Lincolnville Community Library, where she has led several writing workshops and groups.

Both beginning and more experienced writers are welcome to participate in this workshop. There is no charge, but registration is required.
