artist’s reception August 9

Glass artist MaryLou French shows work at Rockport library

ROCKPORT — “New Chapter: Sparking Joy With Color and Design,” a show of glass art by MaryLou French, will be on display at the Rockport Public Library from August 2 through 30. The colorful exhibit will showcase pieces created by French, as well as a handful of works produced in collaboration with her husband, Joe.

The public is invited to attend an artist’s reception in the lower level of the library on Friday, August 9, from 3 to 5 p.m. Additional pieces of her work will be on show exclusively at the reception.

Originally from New Jersey, French moved to Maine in 1971, married her high school sweetheart, raised a family, and worked alongside her husband in an auto repair business for 37 years. Upon retiring in 2023, French began to explore the arts — writing poetry, painting, knitting, crocheting, and fusing glass.

“A lot of my inspiration comes from all the time I have spent in nature,” says French, in a RPL news release.  “Looking at how the colors flow fluidly, blending together and creating unusual patterns . . . how the trees grow and bend, twisting to find the sun.”

“I believe we all have creativity within us,” French continues. “Some of us start at a young age, others start older. Don’t be afraid to try something new. I encourage you to go outside, slow down, look at the beauty around you. You just might get inspired too!”

MaryLou French is the owner of Roc ME Creations, an art studio in Rockport.
