Carver Memorial to welcome Maine author, illustrator Hazel Mitchell, Aug. 13

SEARSPORT — Carver Memorial Library will welcome children’s book author and illustrator Hazel Mitchell for a book talk and workshop on Tuesday, August 13, from 3 to 4 p.m.

Mitchell will lead participants into a magical world where fairies, gnomes, and loveable forest friends explore themes of friendship, connection and belonging. The event will start with a storytime of one of the fairy books Mitchell illustrated. After that, she’ll lead a fun and fanciful drawing workshop where participants will learn to draw fairies and their friends.

This event is free and open to all children, but those under 5 should have an involved parent/guardian. Drawing supplies will be provided.

“It’s such a wonderful opportunity to have an illustrator like Hazel Mitchell visit our library and share her art and expertise,” said Sue McClintock, the Library Director, in a news release. “We’re so lucky that she’s local!”

Mitchell works from her studio at home in Swanville. Originally from England she began to create illustrations and write books for children when she moved to the USA. She has worked on over 25 books, including the seasonal Fairy picture book series written by Liza Gardner Walsh for Down East Books in Rockport. The fairy books concentrate on nature and being outdoors (with fairies, of course!). To learn more, visit www.hazelmitchell.com

The library is located at 12 Union Street in Searsport. For more information, please contact Carver Memorial Library staff at (207) 548-2303 or visit the library’s website at https://www.carverlibrary.org/.
