practical tips and tales of encounters with fellow sailors

Author, sailor to share trip highlights with Sunset Seminar series, Aug. 28

CAMDEN — Freeport-based author Nat Warren-White will recount highlights of a five-year trans-global sailing adventure during a free Sunset Seminar presentation, Wednesday, Aug. 28., at 7 p.m., at the Camden Yacht Club.

Warren-White’s 2022 book, In Slocum’s Wake, compares his expedition with that of Joshua Slocum, the first person to sail alone around the world. Starting in Freeport in 2006, Warren-White crossed the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans aboard his 43' South African-built cutter, Bahati. His talk will take the audience from the San Blas Islands off Panama to the Galapagos, French Polynesia, the Cook Islands, Indonesia, Thailand, Mauritius, Reunion, South Africa, St Helena, and the small Caribbean island of Bequia. It will include practical tips and tales of encounters with fellow sailors and others Warren-White, his family, and other crew members met along the way.

In addition to being a writer and circumnavigator, Nat Warren-White is an actor, director, executive coach, and drama therapist. He has received two John Parkinson Transoceanic Awards and a Circumnavigation Award from the Cruising Club of America. Since returning to his hometown of South Freeport on the Harraseeket River, Warren-White has loved once again cruising the Maine Coast aboard his Cape Dory 25, Lilibet.

The Yacht Club, located at 68 Bay View Street, hosts the nonprofit Camden Area Youth Seamanship Program (CAYSP), open to all young people in the community. Voluntary donations for CAYSP’s generous scholarships, which make sailing lessons affordable to all, will be gratefully accepted at the seminar. Complete details about this year’s Sunset Seminars are available at https://camdenyachtclub.org/sunset-seminars.
