BELFAST — A Grand Opening will be held for the new Little River Community Land Trust, Sunday, Aug. 25, from 2 - 6 p.m., at 3 Adney Place, off Edgecomb Road, in Belfast.

See the new 66 acres and community center that are held by Land in Common (www.landincommon.org), a multi-racial led land trust whose vision is “a world in which land is shared and cared for in common. Where humans and other species flourish in interdependence.”

The event will include music, food, tea, walks on the new trails through the 66 acre land trust, fiber spinning demos, bike repairs (bring a bike), and more. Autumn Jade Fitch, who is Passamaquoddy and the project leader for Land in Common, will be presenting about this new project. Other members of Land in Common will be there to share about their important work. Ethan Hughes, of the Possibility Alliance will also share. 

Land in Common will soon create a land management plan, including a registry of food, craft, and ceremonial plants and trees, which will be open to sustainable harvesting by Wabanaki communities. 

The Little River Collective, a fully volunteer team, including members of the Possibility Alliance, the IFS Liberation Collective, and other local projects, will support Land in Common in their land management plan and help steward the house to become a thriving community and education center dedicated to land justice and the upliftment of life. They will hold a public visioning session during this event so that the the Land Trust can keep learning how this project can best serve the broader community. 

The Little River Community Land Trust is now creating community access to the Little River and offering indoor and outdoor spaces for holding classes, workshops, meetings, youth programs, etc., all offered within the gift economy. It is the first multi-racial led land trust within city limits in Belfast’s 250 year colonial history.
