Coastal Mountains Land Trust seeks volunteers to support teachers as they take students outside

BELFAST — Coastal Mountains Land Trust’s Learning Landscapes program is seeking volunteers to support teachers in taking their classes outside.

Outdoor learning is growing within local schools. Local educators have identified the need for additional support from trained outdoor enthusiasts, in order to offer safe outdoor learning opportunities for their students.

Coastal Mountains Land Trust will be co-hosting a volunteer training with teachers and administrators from RSU 71 and the Five Towns school district, Friday, Aug. 23, from 9 - 11 a.m., at the Captain Albert Stevens School in Belfast.

Participants will learn commonly used approaches to outdoor learning, the specific needs of participating schools, and be asked to take part in the school’s background-check process. Please contact leaht@coastalmountains.org for the registration form.

Coastal Mountains Land Trust has worked since 1986 to permanently conserve land to benefit the natural and human communities of the western Penobscot Bay. The Land Trust has protected over 13,000 acres, offering 55+ miles of trails for public recreation.

Learning Landscapes seeks to connect children to the outdoors through securing land adjacent to schools, creating and enhancing outdoor classrooms, and supporting teachers in moving their curriculum outside with professional development and connection to a network of local support.
