1,900 marijuana plants seized from illegal growing operation in Freedom

    FREEDOM — A search warrant led to the discovery of 1,900 marijuana plants growing in an illegal operation, according to a Waldo County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Cody Laite.

    According to the release, members of the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Waldo County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at 555 Belfast Road. The search warrant was issued as a result of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the WSO Criminal Investigation Division. During the investigation, the Belfast Road address was identified as an illegal marijuana growing operation. 

    During the investigation and execution of the search warrant, the WSO collaborated with additional agencies, including Homeland Security, DEA, the State Office of Cannabis Policy, and the municipality of Freedom. 

    The search of the home resulted in the discovery of 1,900+ live plants were found and dismantled, according to the release. 

    The investigation is ongoing and any charges that result from the investigation will be reported at a later time.
