Rockport, Maine – Down East magazine announced Aug. 30 the promotions of Will Grunewald to editor in chief and Sarah Stebbins to deputy editor, effective immediately. “Will and Sarah both bring an innate sense for the essence of Maine,” said Down East Enterprise president Bob Fernald, in a news release. “They’re each the perfect fit to carry on the magazine’s long history of telling compelling stories about our state.”

Will joined the Down East team in 2016 and most recently served as senior editor, managing the magazine’s North by East and Food & Drink sections and writing features. As editor in chief, he’ll edit Down East features and supervise all print and online content.

Before coming to Down East, Will was an editor at Washingtonian magazine. A graduate of Bowdoin College, he lives in Brunswick with his wife, Heidi, and a dog named Wally. On weekends, they’re usually found hiking or paddling, if they haven’t already retired to a brewery.

Sarah was previously editor in chief of Maine Homes by Down East and home editor at Down East. Now that Maine Homes has been folded into the pages of Down East, Sarah will continue to cover architecture and design, as well as oversee the magazine’s North by East, Food & Drink, and Good Things from Maine sections and contribute to features.

Prior to joining Down East in 2016, Sarah was an editor at In Style and Martha Stewart Living magazines. Her work has also appeared in Real Simple, Southern Living, This Old House, Women’s Health, and other publications. A native of Cousins Island, in Yarmouth, she lives in Portland with her husband, two sons, and Mississippi mutt.
