Rosey Gerry and Diane O’Brien host Fridays at the Museum

LINCOLNVILLE — “Remember Cabin Fever Relievers, those events held in the dead of winter and designed to pull us out of our houses and mingle with each other?” said Diane O’Brien, in a Lincolnville Historical Society news release. “Rather than wait for those dark days, the Historical Society is already planning regular events to make good use of our shiny, ‘new’ 1851 building. And yes, to pull us out of our houses.”

Rosey Gerry and Diane O’Brien will host Fridays at the Museum, a monthly evening program featuring conversation with Lincolnville’s old timers, newcomers, and those in between, followed by audience Q & A. There will even be a little music provided by local folks, and of course, cookies.

Admission is by donation.

The first “Friday” will be Oct. 27, at 7 p.m., at the Beach Schoolhouse, 33 Beach Road. Will Brown will start off with his expressive and often moving music. The first guest will be Corelyn Senn, known around town for her curiosity and persistent research into Lincolnville’s past, explaining how she unravels the past through deed research and old-fashioned walking in the woods.

“It seems fitting that our bright, refurbished kitchen and dining room should be put to good use, especially on chilly, winter evenings,” said O’Brien. “A group of Historical Society volunteers meets every Friday, ostensibly to work on the collection, but we also do a lot of daydreaming, imagining ways to enrich the community.”

Here’s the latest dream. Organizing a sit-down dinner for about 32-40 people, with a small team of cooks and waiters, to be held every other month through the winter with a different team in charge. Each meal could feature a specific cuisine – Asian, French, German, Mexican, whatever.

Dorothee Newcombe and Dick Butler are starting off on November 18 with a four-course all-American menu: shrimp cocktail, salad, filet mignon (and a vegetarian option), scalloped potatoes, asparagus, and dessert. BYOB.

Details to follow.

“We’ve named it the Beach Bistro,” said O’Brien.
