ROCKLAND — A Rockland man is free on bail after he was arrested Sept. 21 for allegedly putting his semen on a woman’s personal belongings while she was at work.

Andrew Edgcomb, 32, was charged with stalking, two counts of assault and two counts of criminal mischief.

Rockland police obtained an arrest warrant July 7 for Edgcomb after a lengthy investigation into several incidents that were reported earlier this year in Rockland. Police said that similar incidents allegedly involving Edgcomb also occurred in 2019 both in Rockland and Thomaston, but charges were never filed.

According to an affidavit filed by Rockland police in Knox County Court, a woman found a white substance on her water bottle at her office. She took the item to the Rockland Police Department on Feb. 23 and the substance was confirmed to be semen.

On March 8, the woman discovered semen on her personal bag with a stuffed animal, also located at her office.

Police interviewed her co-workers including Edgcomb who admitted to placing ejaculate on the woman’s belongings. He provided a DNA sample that was analyzed by the Maine State Police Crime Lab in Augusta.

Based on the lab results, detectives were able to link Edgcomb to the February incidents in Rockland and the incidents reported to police that occurred in 2019 at the Thomaston Walmart and Rockland Hannaford.

Rockland police reviewed the police reports from Thomaston police that involved a Walmart employee. The woman said that Edgcomb followed her on multiple occasions in the store and threw something on her clothing twice which was determined to be semen after she provided her pants to police for DNA analysis.

Thomaston police issued a notice of no trespass to Edgcomb who was not charged in the incident.

Rockland police thanked the Maine State Police Crime Lab for their expertise and assistance in the investigation and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office for assisting in the arrest in a news release issued Sept. 21.

A court date for Edgcomb has not yet been scheduled.
