free teen poetry workshop “Finding Guides” earlier in the day

A reading with poet, AIDS activist Robert Carr, Sept. 19

    ROCKLAND — Robert Carr will read his poetry Thursday, Sept. 19, at 6:30 p.m., at Rockland Public Library.

    Carr is the author of five poetry collections, and his work has appeared in the Greensboro Review, Lana Turner, Maine Review, Massachusetts Review, Shenandoah, and other publications.

    He is co-editor for the 2019 Ghana Literary Group anthology, Bodies and Scars; a 2022 Monson Arts resident; and 2024 Tuscany writer in residence with SPOKE, a Boston-based arts advocacy organization.

    Forthcoming collections include Phallus Sprouting Leaves, winner of the 2024 Rane Arroyo Chapbook Series at Seven Kitchens Press; and Blue Memento, from Lily Poetry Review Books.

    The event is free and open to the public. Sponsored by Millay House Rockland, Maine Humanities Council, Maine Women Writers Collection, OUT Maine, and Rockland Public Library.

    Carr will also lead a free teen poetry workshop entitled “Finding Guides,” sponsored by OUT Maine, earlier in the day from 4:30 - 6 p.m., at Millay House Rockland. FMI: tara@outmaine.org. No prior poetry experience necessary.
