Matinee showing of ‘It Ends With Us’ to include Finding Our Voices discussion

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — The Sunday, Sept. 15 matinee, at 2 p.m., for the new film It Ends With Us (PG13, 2h 10m) will include a special opportunity to delve into the story’s underlying issues of domestic abuse. Following the film, the audience is invited to participate in a conversation with domestic abuse survivors from Finding Our Voices.

The film is adapted from Coleen Hoover’s romantic novel.

“The nonprofit Finding Our Voices is run by Maine women survivors boldly breaking the silence, stigma, and isolation of domestic abuse and providing support to empower their sister survivors to cross over to the bright side of safety and freedom,” said a news release.

The September 15 special film event at Harbor Theater follows a Finding Our Voices public forum at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 2:30 p.m. This Boothbay event comes with free admission to the gardens. It Ends With Us tells the compelling story of Lily Bloom (Blake Lively), a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston and chase a lifelong dream of opening her own business. A chance meeting with charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni) sparks an intense connection, but as the two fall deeply in love, Lily begins to see sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents’ relationship. When Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), suddenly reenters her life, her relationship with Ryle is upended, and Lily realizes she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future.

Harbor Theater is showing the romantic thriller It Ends With Us at 7 pm Friday, September 13, Saturday, September 14, and Thursday September 19, and at 2 pm on Sunday September 15 and Wednesday September 18 (OCAP – open caption screening).
