Maine extradites man from Louisiana, charges him with manslaughter following toddler’s death

    OWLS HEAD — Maine State Police have arrested Aziayh Scott, of Owls Head, charging him with manslaughter in  in connection to the death of 22-month-old Quayshawn Wilson. The toddler died May 29 in Thomaston.

    The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta conducted an autopsy on Thursday, May 30, and ruled the cause of death was blunt force trauma and manner of death was homicide. 

    Scott, who is originally from Louisiana, had recently moved to Maine and was living with his girlfriend and Quayshawn Wilson in Owls Head, police said.

    Detectives learned after going to the residence in Owls Head on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, that couple had returned to Louisiana, said Maine’s Dept. of Public Safety, in a June 5 news release.

    Maine State Police Detectives coordinated with Louisiana State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service Maine Violent Offender Task Force and Scott was arrested this morning, Wednesday, June 5, 2024, in the city of New Orleans.

    Scott was taken to Orleans Parish Prison in New Orleans and the process to extradite Scott back to Maine for the charge of Manslaughter will now begin, police said.

    On May 29, 2024, at approximately 7:26 p.m., Thomaston Police, Fire and Rescue responded to the Walmart in Thomaston for a report of a child not breathing. The child was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center, where the child was pronounced dead, according to MSP, in a news release.  

    Thomaston Police contacted the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit, who responded to investigate, which is protocol in all child deaths in Maine.
