Here are the stories and scores from the middle school basketball playoff contests for both the big school and small school leagues around the midcoast area.  

All coaches are encouraged to report results of your games to sports@penbaypilot.com. Score by quarters, player and points, first and last names each team and  team free throws is all we need. Coaches comments are encouraged.

Busline League Small School Playoffs
Girls
Hope 45, Lincolnville 36… The small school quarterfinals match up saw two local teams from Union 69 facing off against each other in  what turned out to be a hard fought battle where the game was much closer then the final score reveals.

This was a back and forth battle with Lincolnville taking an 11-8 first quarter lead only to have Hope come back and claim an 18-16 half time score. By the end of the third quarter Hope had a 4-point 28-24 lead and the battle was on. In the fourth quarter Lincolnville lost three of it's five starters to foul trouble allowing Hope to apply the full court press and tie over the flow of the game.

With the win Hope will travel to No. 1 Woolwich for a semifinal game Wednesday, Jan. 25. Lincolnville's season comes to a close.

Scoring for Hope were, Kelsie Merrill with 13 points; Laticia Billings 12, Kira Barley 11; Kaitlyn Turnbull five; and Nicole Brown four. Hope was 7-of-32 from the foul line.

For Lincolnville, Mya Wiley had a game high 14 points; Tora Decker-Griffith six; Kendra Bergelin five; Myia Hanson three; and Brinley Harrison, Ayla Curit, Izzy Lang and Emily Morse two points each. Lincolnville was 2-of-5 from the foul line.

There were a total of 41 fouls called in the game. Hope went to the foul line 32 times while Lincolnville only had five attempts.

Busline League Large School Playoffs
8th Grade Boys Semifinal
No. 1 Medomak Middle School 55, No. 3 Wiscasset 51… The 8th grade boys team pulled off a thrilling victory against a very talented Wiscasset team Thursday by the score of 55-51.  

Medomak led after the first quarter 18-15 and at the half 28-22. Wiscasset played big in the second half taking a 40-37 lead into the final stanza.

Trailing by seven points in the fourth quarter the River Hawks turned up the defensive intensity to help spur on the comeback behind the three point shooting of Taylor McLain and Nick Grover. With five-seconds left on the clock McLain hit two free throws to seal the win.   

Leading the scoring were Taylor McLain with 22 points; Jonathan Allard nine; Patrick White eight; Matty Moore six;Cale Gee four; Nick Grover and Cameron Martin three each. Medomak was 6-of-11 from the foul line.

Scoring for Wiscasset were, Grant Hefler with 21 points; Ethan James 20; Kevin Lynch four; and Nate Woodman and Russell Marr three each. Wiscasset was 7-of-11 from the foul line.   

The River Hawks earned the right play in the Busline League Championship Game on Saturday, Jan. 19 at noon at Medomak Middle School.  

7th Grade Girls Semifinal
No. 3 Oceanside Blue 37,  No. 2Oceanside White 31… The Oceanside Blue girls team tipped off against classmates from the Oceanside White team in the Busline League 7th grade girls semifinal.

Blue led after each quarter, 8-5, 23-13 and 28-25 heading into the fourth quarter where Blue was able to hold onto the lead for the playoff win.

Scoring for Blue were, Gabby Simmons with a game high 21 points, Casey Pine six; Jordan Brackett five; Taylor Hamlin four and Aubrey Doyle one. Blue was 12-of-19 from the foul line.

For White, Aubrey Anderson had 11 points; Lauren Miller nine; Amelia Campbell four; Charlotte Leparulo three; Cassidy Boynton two; and Amber Johnston and Mckenzie Murray one each. White was 7-of-21 from the foul line.

7th Grade Boys Semifinal
Troy Howard 60, Camden-Rockport 19… The Camden-Rockport seventh grade boys basketball team traveled to Belfast for a semifinal match up with No. 1 Troy Howard Thursday, in a game that was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 16, but was postponed due to weather.

Troy Howard led after each quarter, 16-8, 29-12 and 52-14 after three quarters leading to the lopsided win.

Scoring for Troy Howard were, Sam Goguen with 14 points; Tyler Bartlett 11; Skylar Perkins 10; Stan Sturgis and Dakoda Doolan six each; Grady Doolan five; Ricky Smith four; and Aaron Fuller, Jesse Perry and Troy Reed two each. Troy Howard was 12-of-21 from the foul line.

For Camden, Lucas Boetsch (8 points, 8 rebounds), Tucker Grinnell (3 points), Jesse Fraser (2 points), Noah Erskine (2 points), Conrad Crans (2 points, 8 rebounds) and Will Nickerson (2 points). The Schooner's 0-of-5 from the foul line.  

Championship game schedule for Saturday, Jan. 19
7th grade boys - No. 3 Boothbay vs No. 1 Troy Howard - 10 am
8th grade boys - Medomak Middle School vs Troy Howard/Boothbay winner - noon
7th grade girls - No. 2 Oceanside Blue vs Camden-Rockport/Boothbay winner. 2 p.m.
8th grade girls - Great Salt Bay vs Camden-Rockport/Boothbay winner - 4 p.m.
