US News and World Report ranks Camden Hills fourth best high school in state

    Camden Hills Regional High School has been ranked the fourth-best out of 111 high schools in Maine for the 2023-2024 school year by U.S. News & World Report.

    “Our ranking by US News and World Report seems to creep up each year and this is the highest its been. I believe we could go head to head with any school in the nation, especially if measures of student kindness, teacher dedication, and sense of belonging were included. Our staff has created, and our community has supported, an amazing educational experience for local students. Our mission says it all, Be Kind. Work Hard. Keep Learning,” said Superintendent Maria Libby, in a news release.

    The ranking is based on six indicators of school quality: College readiness; breadth of curriculum; scores on state proficiency tests; performance in reading, math, and science; underserved student performance; and graduation rates. 

    First place went to Greeley High School, in Cumberland, followed by Kennebunk and Cape Elizabeth, then Camden Hills.

    “Having access to a strong high school program is paramount for students as they face an ever-changing world,” said Liana Loewus, managing editor of education at U.S. News. “Making data on our high schools available helps parents ensure their child is in the educational environment that best sets them up to thrive.” 

    Camden Hills Regional High School serves approximately 750 students in grades 9 through 12 from primarily six surrounding towns.

    The school is includes a wind turbine, geothermal heat, rooftop solar panels, and partnership in a solar farm. It offers an array of educational experiences for students and is dedicated to hiring and retaining a high-quality, diverse staff, the release said.
