WOOLWICH — The Busline League soccer season opened Monday, Sept. 10 for the Medomak Middle girls soccer team as they hit the road to challenge Woolwich.

On the road, the Riverhawks girls team fell to Woolwich 2-1 and will now turn their attention to a Wednesday, Sept. 12 home contest against Camden-Rockport.

“Both teams started off strong [in] back and forth action,” said Medomak head coach Andrea Williamson.

Woolwich took a 1-0 lead with eight minutes gone in the first half with a direct kick just outside the 18. “It was picture perfect, high and to the corner,” said Williamson.

In the opening half, Addison McCormick stopped two hard shots, according to Williamson.

The Riverhawks tacked on its lone goal of the contest 12 minutes later when Skylah Ward dribbled from the 18 down the middle and nailed her shot in the lower corner to tie the contest.

“Both teams headed out strong in the second half,” Williamson said. “MMS had twice as many shots as Woolwich but were not able to capitalize. The ball was down in Woolwich's end 80% of the time.”

Woolwich broke the tie with 90 seconds remaining in the contest.
