Poets Corner to read from “To the Point and Back”

In the summer of 2023, two friends decided to write a poem each time they swam. They both love open water swimming and they swam a lot that summer, sometimes alone, sometimes together. From a selection of the poems they wrote they put together a book, To the Point and Back: Swimming Poems including photographs from above and below the waterline. The poems reveal a story of friendship, a love of Maine’s lakes and ponds, of swimming, and of life.

Join Zoom on Sunday, Sept. 8, from 4 - 5:30 p.m., for a reading from the book and a conversation about poetic friendships and poetic practice.

Best-selling author Natalie Goldberg, whose new book Writing on Empty: A Writer’s Guide to Finding Your Voice was just released, says about To the Point and Back: “What they created was a practice, a practice of writing each time they swam, and in that structure, discovering what came up on the page. There’s something very Zen about that kind of practice, and beauty in the poems that arrived as a result.”
