SEARSPORT — Hey Sailor begins a songwriter-focused, multi-artist live music series, Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 7 p.m., at the Hey Sailor’s Starboard Lounge, 25 E. Main St. Searsport.

Sara Trunzo, an award-winning songwriter, community organizer, and the host of WERU’s Country & Northeastern, hosts the event at the gastrodivebar and live music venue.

Four musicians converge on the Starboard Lounge stage at Hey Sailor to perform in the Nashville tradition of a “songwriters’ round,'' in which a group of writers perform in a round-robin style sharing original songs and some of the stories behind them. A variety of voices will be represented in this offering: George Loring, Alice Limoges, Juniper Ginger, and Kayla Wass.

Trunzo provides the following descriptions of the artists:

George Loring is an indigenous musician, singer/songwriter, and actor from The Penobscot Nation. A powerful and soulful vocalist as well as decent guitarist; Loring is a multi-genre artist specializing in New Americana, Folk, Rock, Blues and Outlaw Country. He is a solo acoustic performer as well as part of a dynamic duo/trio "Just Honey." Loring is also co-founder of Honey Buzz Studio, which specializes in live sound and music for virtually any small to medium sized venue.

Alice Limoges has been singing since before she could walk. Whether performing her poetic songs about love and nature, or shining a light on mental health, Alice Limoges's canon is lit up by her storytelling, unique, soulful voice and sophisticated instrumentals. She has released 6 original albums/EPs, toured festivals and colleges across North America, and even performed on Jon Samson’s Grammy Award winning album.

Juniper Ginger is the solo songwriting project of Maine-based musician Alex Millan. Through Juniper Ginger, Alex explores themes of queerness, community, and connection. She is currently writing a new album, and you’ll see her performing around New England this summer as Juniper Ginger, and as a member of Dead Gowns. Alex is proud to be a teaching artist and audio engineer for the local nonprofit Documentary Songwriters.

Kayla Wass, from Hampden, and now residing in Nashville, Tennessee, has earned awards in Colgate Country Showdown, North American Country Music Association, Downeast, Pine Tree Country Music Associations, and the Hampden Academy Choral Program. In Nashville, she sings in and around Broadway including at The Wheel, George Jones Museum, the Gaylord Opryland Hotel, Barlines, and more. Some of Kayla’s special moments include singing harmony for Daryle Singletary, opening for Gene Watson, performing with Mark Wills, and singing with Grammy-nominated, Dove Award winners, High Road Band. Kayla’s new record, ‘Steel Guitars & Broken Hearts’ is out now.
