Organist Sean Fleming to give recital at Searsport church, Sept. 8

    SEARSPORT — Damariscotta organist Sean Fleming will present an organ recital Sunday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m., at the First Congregational Church of Searsport, 8 Church St.

    Featured on the 1906 E.W. Lane pipe organ will be Bach’s Concerto in G Major, BWV 592, the chorale prelude on Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele, BWV 654 by Bach, the Mendelssohn Prelude and Fugue in G Major, Op. 37, No. 2, Franck's Offertoire in E Flat Major, CFF 36B, "Concert Variations on The Star Spangled Banner" by the Maine-born composer John Knowles Paine, and more. As a special treat, an excerpt from Dvořák's "New World" symphony will be played, featuring the tune well-known as "Going Home."

    A piano and organ recitalist who has performed throughout the United States, Fleming studied organ and piano with Ray Cornils, John Doney, Michael Lindsey, and Gerald McGee. He was the recipient of a 2009 St. Botolph Club Foundation grant award. He also works with numerous choral groups and theater organizations throughout Maine. 
     
    Admission is by donation at the door.
