Jon Mort to hold Open Studio for Drawn by Night, Aug. 3 - 4

    PORT CLYDE — Jon Mort will welcome visitors to an Open Studio for Drawn by Night, August 3 and 4, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Fieldstone Castle, 129 Marshall Pt Lighthouse Rd, in Port Clyde. He will present an Artist Talk on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 1 p.m. 

    “Jon Mort has received broad acclaim for his mastery of many varied artistic media including startlingly realistic colored pencil and large-scale graphite images and is also a highly sought-after portrait artist,” said Karen Adams, studio curator for Mort, in a news release.

    His monumental political sculpture “Gates of Hell” a mixed media 16’X 3’ creation was recently presented before the United States Supreme Court and Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC and appeared in over 30 media outlets around the world. His art has been featured in Art Collector, Island Journal, Temper Magazine and many more. 

    Mort is a serious social justice activist and Maryland Public television did a program on his use of his art to raise funds for various causes including a children’s hospital in Ukraine.

    Mort received Fine Art and Classics degrees from Franklin and Marshall College and his master’s in architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design.    

    Mort’s creations have been shown in thirty one-person or group museum and gallery exhibitions. He is represented worldwide by the Carla Massoni Gallery where he currently is included in their Art+Architecture.2 exhibition and Somerville Manning Gallery which will host his one person show in spring 2025.
