Pie Palooza Dinner in Stockton Springs, July 31

STOCKTON SPRINGS — The Sandy Point Community Club will hold a Pie Palooza Dinner, Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., in the lower-level event room of the Stockton Springs Municipal Building, 217 Main Street, Stockton Springs. Entry is by donation and all are welcome.

This year’s Pie Palooza is another step on the long fund-raising journey to secure the monies needed to restore and renovate the faithful, old Sandy Point Community Club building (originally called Griffin Hall) which has been standing along the side of US Route One in Maine since 1840. Progress is under way with the basement having been given a cement floor and water-proofing treatment, the kitchen having been stripped down to the studs, and the drafting of a lay-out for a new kitchen area (with plans for installation of a brand-new accessible bathroom included)!

“As we continue to raise funds, more advances will be coming,” said the Community Club, in a news release. “(Just for example, a bit of help with updating the old knob and tube wiring would sure come in handy!)”

The Sandy Point Community Club was first created in 1924 with its original purpose being to offer activities to encourage closer relationships among seasonal summer folk and year-round residents in the area. Today the name is a bit of a misnomer because no membership is required and the events hosted by the Club are always open to all members of the public. This organization has been serving the community for 100 years. The current activities of the Club are still aimed at bringing people together and in recent years events have included public suppers, open mic evenings and hosting performances by well-known musical artists.

“The Sandy Point Community Club would be delighted to have everyone join them for the Pie Palooza in the event room (basement, rear of building) of the Stockton Springs Municipal Building on July 31, 2024, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.,” said the Club. “Come learn about the plans for future building renovations, this organization and its heritage in this area, and enjoy a sociable dinner of delectable savory and sweet pies.”
