Willa Bywater to present research into Aroostook War in Maine (1838-1839)

BELFAST — On Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 p.m., the Belfast Free Library will host Willa Bywater for a presentation on their research into the Aroostook War in Maine (1838-1839). The talk will take place in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library and is free and open to all.

Willa Bywater, current student at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania and former Belfast Historical Society intern and current Penobscot Marine Museum interpreter, will share their discovery of a journal from 1839 kept by one William P. Parrott, who was stationed at Fort Fairfield in the aftermath of the Aroostook War.

In the talk Bywater will discuss the significance of Parrott’s journal, found in the Maine Historical Society archives, and what it reveals about the Aroostook War, a comical yet surprisingly relevant period in Maine’s history.
