ROCKLAND — Rodney John Townsend, age 61, of Rockland, died unexpectedly at his home due to medical complications on July 13, 2024. 

Born in Rockland on October 12, 1962, Rodney was one of five children born to Earl S. and Vera Greenrose Townsend. Rodney attended local schools and graduated from Rockland District High School. 

Rodney worked packing sardines as well as a safety flagger for road construction. He enjoyed riding his lawn tractor while mowing his lawns. He was always keeping an eye on the weather and was known as the ‘Family Weatherman”. 

Rodney was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Wayne, and Harvey Richardson. 

He is survived by his three sisters, Cynthia M. Bend and her husband, Robert, of Trenton, Florida, Nancy A. Gamage of Jonesborough, Tennessee, Rhonda L. Batty and companion John Bennett of Rockland, along with nieces, nephews, and many friends.  

A graveside service remembering Rodney for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 2 p.m., at the West Rockport Cemetery, Park Street, Rockport, Maine. 

The arrangements are under the care and direction of Hall Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Main Street, Thomaston, Maine.
