Denise Anderson and “Summiting Kilimanjaro”

A hiking adventure in Tanzania talk presented at Rockport library

ROCKPORT — The Rockport Public Library announces a new series of talks in partnership with the Appalachian Mountain Club, Maine Chapter. Denise Anderson will be giving the first presentation entitled, “Summiting Kilimanjaro” on Wednesday, July 31, at 6 p.m. She will offer a narrated slideshow detailing her recent 7-day hike in Tanzania.

Kilimanjaro has three peaks, the highest is Uhuru Peak, at 19,341 feet. Anderson hiked the Lemosho Route, which starts at the Londorossi Gate on the western side of Kilimanjaro. Her talk will include explanations of the various ecological zones she encountered along the route: rainforest, moorland and alpine desert—and the summit, an arctic climate.

Denise Anderson has been hiking since her teenage years, first in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the entire Appalachian Trail over 5 years (2015-2020), and most of the Colorado Trail in August 2023.

Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) serving the regions of New England and Mid-Atlantic states has been in existence since 1876 and is the nation’s longest serving conservation and recreation organization. AMC is active in conservation, year-round outdoor activities, and outdoor leadership training.
