41st Annual Friendship Day Celebration schedule for July 19 - 20, 2024

FRIENDSHIP — The Town of Friendship has provided its schedule of events for the 41st Annual Friendship Day Celebration, July 19-20, 2024. The event directly benefits the Ambulance Services for Friendship residents and other nonprofit services in Friendship, Maine.

Friday, July 19

4-7pm Silent Auction Part 1 & Live Auction Pre-View, CASH & CHECK ONLY! Come bid on a selection of silent auction items before the Pie Contest. Winners will be announced at 7pm and can pay and take home their items that evening.

5-6pm Pie Contest Judging, come out to see who wins the pie contest this year, fruit double crust pies and cream pies. Pie slices will be available for cash donation after the contest. Contestants can sign up at the Town Office beginning Monday, July 1st. There are only 10 contestants for each category so be sure to sign up early.

7am-2pm- NEW! Friendship Day Information Table by the Town Office, stop by and pick a lobster for a prize, buy a magnet or town sticker, and any remaining tickets for the Chicken BBQ. All proceeds directly benefit our ambulance services. CASH & CHECK ONLY

7am-Noon- Bake Sale and NEW Garden Sale. Fudge, cakes, muffins, cookies, bread, coffee and more! Bakers needed, please contact Toni at 832-4750. If you’d like to donate veggies or flowers contact Karrie at 790-4240, CASH & CHECK ONLY

7-10am- Advent Church 24th Annual Friendship Pancake Breakfast, plain or with Beth’s Farm Blueberries; maple syrup, sausage, juice and coffee.

7:30am !NEW TIME! Annual Road Races Registration, Advent Church parking lot. Pre-register at https://runinarace.com/FriendshipDays/index.html

5K “Long Haul” $20 pre-register/$25 day of race. First 50 registered runners receive a t-shirt. M/F First Place will receive a certificate for 10lbs of lobster.

1 mile Fun Run/Walk “Short Haul”, kids up to 8th grade & their parents, $5 pre-reg/$10 day of race.

8am- Start of the “Long Haul” 5K, a certified course. Awards will take place in the Friendship Village School Parking lot M/F 1st Place-Run In A Race LLC

8:30am-!NEW TIME! Start of the “Short Haul” 1 mile Family Fun Run & Walk

8:30-2pm Craft Fair-Held under the Big Tent and in the Fire Department. Over 25 different artists including rugs, baskets, wood working, jewelry, quilting, glass art, photography and more. Come and support your local artists. Contact Hope Wotton at 542-3168.

9 am- Pet Show- Bring your favorite pet, on a leash or in a cage, to the show in front of the Hahn Center and Big Tent. Adults should accompany children. Prizes will be awarded. Contact Lorraine Lash at 832-7955

9-11am- The Lobster Conservancy- Near corners of Main St and Rt 220, come experience Sea Life at your fingertips

9am-1pm- Friendship Museum Annex Sale-Stop by to view the museum items with stories and history from Friendship. Historic videos also on display along with Friendship Merchandise.

9am-3pm- Friendship Village Artisan Co-op, 11 Main St (Meduncook Lodge).

9am-4pm- Silent Auction Part 2. Silent Auction items will be located in the Hahn Center. The last bid will be at 4pm and winners will be notified by phone this year. We ask that all items be paid for and picked up by 8pm
so we don’t miss the fireworks. CASH & CHECK ONLY!

9:30am -Friendship Fire Department starts serving up their famous Lobster Rolls, along with burgers, hotdogs, chicken tenders, awesome fries and drinks. All proceeds benefit the Fire Department Fund. 10am-TOWN PARADE, “Happy Days of Friendship”, Line up begins at 9am across from the Post Office on Tamarack Rd. Greeters will help with the line up, no pre-registration needed.

10:30-1pm !NEW! LARGER KIDS AREA AT FRIENDSHIP VILLAGE SCHOOL. Activities for all ages including 2 Bouncy Houses, Games, Face Painting, watermelon eating contest, snow cones and more! The concession stand will also be open at the Rec Field across the street.

11am- Corn Hole Tournament on the Friendship Recreation Field. Registration from 11-11:30. Tournament begins at noon until 3pm. Contact Amy McCollett at 542-4040.

1pm-4pm-LIVE AUCTION in the Hahn Center. Auction items are numerous and unique. CASH & CHECK ONLY! Call Karrie at 790-4240 or email friendshipdaymaine@gmail.com to donate items for the live or silent
auctions. Drop offs at the Hahn Center will be 9 am-3 pm, Saturday, July 13th and Sunday July 14th.

4pm- !NEW Pick Up Time! Chicken BBQ Dinner- Meal includes chicken, coleslaw, rolls, chips, dessert and a free bottle of water donated by Poland Spring Water. This year we have a few more tickets. Purchase tickets,
$15 each, at the Town Office starting, July 1st. Any remaining tickets will be available for sale at the Information Table on July 20th.

1-4pm Friendship Museum will be open for tours on the corner of Martins Pt Rd and Rt 220.

6am-8pm-Wallace Market Opened for all your needs, including sunscreen, beverages, chips, etc. Enjoy pizza, the best deli sandwiches and vegetarian options.

Noon -7pm-Jameson Point Lobster Company will be serving lobsters, steamers, fried seafood, sandwiches, Gifford’s ice cream, blueberry pie, and more! Live music in the afternoon!

9pm- FIREWORKS over Friendship Harbor! Enjoy from anywhere around the harbor.

 

Sunday, July 21st -Friendship Lobster Boat Races kick off at 10 am in the Friendship Harbor. Come on down and enjoy the races, shirts, hats, hoodies, food and fun for all.

2024 Friendship Day Grand Marshals

We are honored to have Dr. James Li, Friendship’s Town Health Officer since 2005, and Kim Newby, as our Friendship Day Grand Marshals! James and Kim came to Friendship on a date 25 years ago and “immediately felt something good about the grounded way of life and local traditions' '. They married in Friendship and made Friendship their home. 20 years ago, Dr. Li began and still runs the annual free fall Friendship Health Clinic with Kim’s help and other medical volunteers. In 2012, he also assisted the Friendship Ambulance Auxiliary Foundation (FAAF) with the initial purchase and placement of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in town. Kim has been active in the FAAF for 10 years and is “proud to be working with other Trustees to broaden program funding which supports the FAAF’s mission to improve and assist the health of town residents'’. Dr. Li and Kim help with various programs and committees in Friendship including Friendship Day’s Pie Contest.

James and Kim lobster and are licensed mussel, oyster and scallop growers. They also share a wide variety of hobbies including being ham radio operators, raising and releasing wild birds and maintaining their own renewable energy systems for their home. Kim has been a practicing international corporate attorney for three decades and is a local realtor. Dr. Li is a former Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, former Emergency Physician at Maine Medical Center & Miles Memorial Hospital and also currently serves as the Medical Director at Waldoboro Emergency Medical Service. We are grateful for the contributions, dedication and support this wonderful couple has given to our community.
