ST. GEORGE — A homeowner on Turkey Cove Road in St. George awoke to a house full of smoke in the wee hours of Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 22.

At 2:30 a.m., the homeowner notified Knox County Communications Center of a fire contained to the interior of a dryer with clothes inside. The homeowner and her grandchildren evacuated the single-story residence and waited for the fire department.

Mutual aid came from the volunteer crews in Thomaston, South Thomaston, Owls Head, Cushing, and Warren.

The last remaining crews on scene returned to the station shortly after 3:30 a.m., and the house occupants were cleared to re-enter the structure.
