BELFAST — The Belfast Historical Society will meet Monday, July 24, at 7 p.m., in the Abbott Room at the Belfast Free Library, to hear a talk by Megan Pinette, Belfast Historical Society president.

The talk “Daredevil of the Skies, Capt. Albert W. Stevens” will highlight his achievements as the nation’s best aerial photographer in the early 20th century. He may have been the only person in history to have set world records by both exploiting and defying the law of gravity. Among his many accomplishments during the 1920s were high altitude test flights, high-altitude parachute jumps and the first aerial photographs of the United States. On November 11, 1935, Stevens was in command of the balloon stratospheric flight which rose to a record breaking 72,295 feet.

The Belfast Historical Society presents talks of local historical interest on the 4th Monday of the month from April through October.

All presentations are at 7 p.m., in the Abbott Room at the Belfast Free Library and are open to the public.
