Rockport accident slows traffic for a brief morning spell

ROCKPORT — One woman was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center following a late morning accident on Route 1.

The two-car crash occurred near the Oakland Park Bowling Lanes just before 11 a.m. The drivers of both vehicles, a Chevrolet Impala and a Hyundai, were alone in their sedans.

According to Rockport Police Sgt. Travis Ford, the crash occurred when Nathalie Scott, 92, of Owls Head, attempted to pull out onto Route 1 from the bowling alley in her 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. As she did, she turned left into the oncoming path of Helen Webster, 44, of Cushing. Webster was traveling north in her 2012 Hyundai Elantra.

Webster suffered from chest and neck pain, and went to the hospital via a North East Mobile Health Services ambulance. Scott was uninjured.

The Impala was a total wreck, Ford said. The Hyundai sustained front end passenger damage.

Rockport police and firefighters worked quickly to clear the debris from the highway and kept traffic flowing along one lane as Camden Exxon hitched up and towed both cars back to a Camden garage.

    There were no associated charges.
