ROCKLAND — The Strand Theatre’s outdoor Sunshine Series will present “Ants on a Log,” an award-winning children’s music group that centers positivity, social justice, and silliness, Thursday, Aug. 29, at 10:30 a.m.,.at Safe Harbor gazebo, 60 Ocean St., in Rockland. This performance is appropriate for all ages and admission is Pay-What-You-Can ($0-20). 

This performance from the Philadelphia-based “Ants on a Log” will feature a duo arrangement with music therapists Julie Be and Miles Crabtree. Blending their skills has enabled them to reach beyond the usual scope of simple songs for children, tackling complex themes and embracing the full potential of a child’s ability to think and feel. Full of humor and harmony, “Ants” concerts are energetic, interactive, and a delight for children and adults, according to the Strand, in a news release. “Ants on a Log’s” music has been featured widely in national media, including the NY Times and NPR, and their self-produced music videos have been selected for juried film festivals around the world. 

The “Bellybutton Peace Brigade” will open this show. This new music duo is made up of local music teachers Alyssa Kelly and Khaya Cohen.

“Thank you to the Midcoast Music Academy for sponsoring this engagement,” said the Strand.

“Sunshine Series” performances are presented by J. Edward Knight Insurance and co-produced by the Coastal Children’s Museum, with event sponsors OUT Maine, Rockland Rotary, Safe Harbor Rockland, and the Rockland Harbor YMCA.

In the event of rain, the performance will take place in the theater.
