Update July 18, 2024: Thomaston Ambulance Service announced on its Facebook page, July 17, that it is borrowing a recently retired ambulance from Rockland while Thomaston deals with its own ambulance issue.

THOMASTON — Just prior to 12 p.m., July 12, 2024, Thomaston Fire and Ambulance services were responding to a motor vehicle crash on Route 1 (New County Rd) at the entrance to Walmart and Tractor Supply. While en route, the ambulance became involved in its own incident near the intersection of Old County and New County roads.

That incident involved a dump truck owned by George C. Hall, which was left with a bent front bumper and scratches on the adjacent hub cap. The ambulance was left with scrapes along the passenger side and a dangling passenger mirror.

After the impact, both vehicles were able to pull into a parking lot.

There were no patients in the ambulance.

Immediately when the sideswipe occurred, Thomaston requested for Rockland EMS to respond to the initial crash, which involved a pickup truck and a motorcycle. Two Thomaston police officers were on duty at the time. Each covered a crash.

The motorcycle driver was transported to the hospital. No injuries were reported from the dump truck/ambulance incident.

Though the ambulance department said it would be out of service for the time being, the crew was able to respond to the next Thomaston medical call, which came in at approximately 1:45 p.m.
