CUSHING — Wesley James Daggett, 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 15, 2024, after a period of declining health. He was born on December 7, 1937, to William Daggett & Dorothy Ifemey Daggett of Thomaston, Maine. Wes married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Ekberg, on December 1, 1956. During their 67 years together, they were blessed with 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

As a devout Christian, it was very important to Wes to have his family know the Lord, to have good Christian values, and to regularly attend church.

Family was very precious to both Wes and Phyllis. They hosted many big family Thanksgivings and 4th of July celebrations along with several family weddings and receptions at their beautiful home in Cushing. Wes and Phyllis worked very hard, landscaping and mowing their property. They often mowed side by side, enjoying the immaculate grounds and gardens they had created together. They enjoyed taking trips in their motorhome. Florida and Moosehead Lake were two of their favorite destinations. Their most inspiring trip was to the Holy Land in Israel.

Wes learned to fly in his teens. His father introduced him to aviation. Over the years he built, rebuilt, and flew a variety of planes including his Piper Cubs and powered parachutes. He loved airports and attending air shows.

Wes worked for Martin Marietta Cement Plant in Thomaston driving truck and was later promoted to shift foreman. In 1979, Wes started his own business, Wesley Daggett & Sons, Builders. It later became Daggett Builders, Inc. Wes was known to be a man of integrity. He was hard-working with great morals and was renowned for the quality of his work.

Wes had a great sense of humor. He loved teaching his grandchildren silly songs. Phyllis said his ability to make her laugh is what first attracted her to him. From the time Wes first saw Phyllis, he said, “That’s the girl I’m going to marry”.

Wes was predeceased by his parents, William and Dorothy Daggett, as well as his son Mark Daggett, who went to be with the Lord in 2018.

He is survived by wife, Phyllis, along with four of their children and their spouses, Crystal Robinson and her husband Christopher, Mark Daggett’s widow, Dianne, Brian Daggett and his fiancé Melissa Maker, Keith Daggett and his wife Dawn, and Brad Daggett. Wes and Phyllis’ eleven grandchildren are, Alexander Robinson, Valerie Robinson and her husband Mark Merchant, Benjamin Daggett and his wife, Tori, William Daggett, Abigail Daggett Callnan, and her husband, Joshua, Chelsea Daggett MacCoole, and her husband, Maxwell, Sarah Daggett, Emily Daggett and her fiancé, Charles Fridge, Anna Daggett, Kacy Daggett, and Brianne Daggett.

Wes and Phyllis have been blessed with 5 great grandchildren, Maximus Merchant, Lucia Merchant, Wesley Paul Daggett, Emily Sue Daggett, and Weston James MacCoole.

Wes’s surviving siblings are Malcolm Daggett and his wife Corinne, Sandra Daggett Atwood and her husband William, Francesca Daggett Robinson and her husband, Frederick. Wes was exceptionally close with many of his nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2 p.m., at the Thomaston Baptist Church, 212 Main Street, Thomaston, Maine.
