TENANTS HARBOR — Although unexpectedly, Linwood R. ‘Bugga’ Colpritt, Jr., 80, died peacefully, doing what he loved, visiting and socializing with the folks at his beloved Tenants Harbor General Store, Tuesday, December 5, 2023. His family takes comfort knowing he passed in the caring arms of his extended family there, and he wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Linwood was born in Rockland, September 18, 1943, the son of Linwood, Sr. and Gwendolyn Hartley Colpritt.

In October of 1964 Bugga married Jeannie Miller. Together they made their home in St. George until her passing in 2009.

A hard worker his entire life, Bugga worked for over 12 years at Fisher Engineering as a welder/painter. Later he took great pride in keeping the school clean for the teachers, children and families at the St. George Elementary School. He had a vast range of knowledge and put his skills to work serving as a caretaker along with his good friend, Bill Stuart, at the Andrew Wyeth property, as well as going to sea as a self-employed lobsterman for many years.

When not busy working, he loved a good round of golf at the Rockland Golf Club, or winning a hand of Cribbage, often playing in tournaments at the Black Harpoon. Bugga was very fond of his ‘Harpoon Girls’. He also enjoyed the food and music at The Happy Clam. He was also active in the CB community and was known by the handle, ‘Painter’.

He was extremely proud to be a part of the St. George community, and his passing will leave a void that will be hard to fill.

Predeceased by his wife, Jeannie Colpritt, and a sister, Gloria Daivs; Linwood is survived by his children, Caroline Hooper (Jonathan) of St. George, Linwood Colpritt, III (Valerie) of Norton, Massachusetts; his siblings, Phyllis McDonald, Sharon Vanorse, Marilyn Cloutier; his grandchildren, Cory Hooper (Jen), Sam Hooper, Morgan Hooper (Travis), Timothy Colpritt (Caitlin), Dylan Colpritt; and two great-grandchildren, Caspar Hooper and Colby Dodge; as well as several nieces and nephews that he loved and was proud of.

Bugga’s family has chosen to remember his life privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. George School Makerspace, (a project near and dear to Bugga’s heart), either online at www.stgeorgemsu.org
or by check to ‘St. George School Fund’ with ‘CTE/Makerspace Building’ in the memo, c/o St. George MSU, Attn: Mike Felton, P.O. Box 153, Tenants Harbor, ME 04860.
