Fall hawk migration hike on Haystack Mountain

MONTVILLE — October is a prime time to watch the fall migration of hawks and other birds, according to Midcoast Conservancy, in a news release.

On Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., join a guided hike on Haystack Mountain in Montville. The group will hike to the barrens atop Haystack Mountain, where panoramic views allow for great viewing and observing of southbound migrant birds of prey, and search for other birds while enjoying fall foliage. Waterproof shoes and binoculars are recommended.

The event is co-sponsored by Midcoast Conservancy, Sebasticook Regional Land Trust (SRLT), and Friends of Haystack Mountain.

SRLT Board chair and skilled birder Tom Aversa is leading the walk. The hike is moderately difficult. All ages are welcome but participants are asked to please leave pets at home. For more information, go to https://www.midcoastconservancy.org/events-list/bird-watch-on-haystack-mountain.
