Katharine Garland to share tips for attracting pollinators to the garden

Event has passed

ROCKPORT — The Rockport Garden Club will meet on Thursday, Sept. 7, at West Rockport Baptist Church. Katharine Garland, who holds a B.A. in Botany and an M.S. in Horticulture from the University of Maine, will discuss the best plants to plant in your garden to attract and provide food for pollinators. Her presentation will begin at 1 p.m.

Garland helps gardeners improve and build horticultural skills through several educational avenues, including workshops, newsletters, social media posts, and one-on-one support. Garland works with both schools and community gardens to develop plans to encourage and train young gardeners to plant with sustainable impact. In her Master Gardener Volunteer program, participants receive over 50 hours of in-depth training in the art and science of horticulture, and, in return, they volunteer their time and expertise towards educational or food security projects. She supports and coordinates a team of Maine Harvest for Hunger volunteers who are growing, gleaning, and distributing thousands of pounds of food annually to shelters, pantries, and individuals struggling with food insecurity in and around Penobscot County.

All are welcome to Rockport Garden Club events and presentations.

Founded in 1934, the Rockport Garden Club is committed to Town Beautification and supporting a scholarship program. The Spring Plant Sale and the Holly Berry Fair are the Club’s primary fundraisers.
