Estelle Rackliff, obituary

ROCKLAND — The community mourns the loss of Estelle Rackliff, 69, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10. Estelle leaves behind a legacy defined by love, kindness, and an unwavering spirit. While her passing brings great sorrow, there is solace in knowing she is now at peace, reunited with her daughter Amy, her mother Marguerite, and her grandmother Lillian.

Born in Rockland, to Marguerite Wood, Estelle was educated in local schools.

In 1978, she married Robert Rackliff, and started their family with their two daughters, Amy and Ann, who were the light of Estelle’s life. Known for her determination, Estelle overcame many challenges, including teaching herself to read after graduating high school, a testament to her resilience and resolve.

Estelle found her calling in home healthcare, where she dedicated many years to caring for the elderly, a role that allowed her compassionate nature to shine. Her impact on the lives of those she cared for, as well as her own family and friends, is immeasurable. 

Predeceased by her daughter Amy Rackliff in 2021, Estelle is survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert Rackliff; her daughter Ann Gergis and son-in-law George of Milford, Massachusetts; grandchildren Christopher Mansfield of Thomaston, and Eve and Jonny Gergis of Milford, Massachusetts; her brother, John Wood and sister-in-law Susan Wood of Hope; her sister, Marie York and her partner Jim Tewhey of Cushing.

Estelle’s passing is also deeply felt by her beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, and her cherished Aldersgate Methodist Church family.

She is remembered fondly by her close friend Joanne and her loyal companions, her dog Jack, and three cats, Molly, Muffin, and Simba.

A celebration of Estelle’s life will be held at a later date at Aldersgate Church in Rockland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Estelle’s memory to the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
