2nd annual Rose Hip Basket Social by Rockland District Nursing Association, Sept. 7

ROCKLAND — The Rockland District Nursing Association (RDNA) will be hosting its second annual Rose Hip Basket Social on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Eliza Steele Memorial Garden in MacDougal Park, Rockland.

A curated garden bake sale, this year’s focus is “Fall,” with seasonal, locally made sweet and savory treats. Enjoy a cup of cider and a donut in the lush garden honoring RDNA’s founding nurse. The Rose Hip Basket Raffle returns with generous donations from area businesses including overnight stays and local activities.

Raffle tickets will be sold the day of the event, and winners are not required to be present during the drawing. Leading up to the Basket Social, McLoons Lobster Shack, this year’s Phyllo Doughnator, invites friends and neighbors to join in filling the Rose Hip’s basket by becoming a 2024 Doughnator. For a preview of the raffle baskets, and to become a Doughnator, visit the “Join US” page at www.rocklanddistrictnursing.org. For event information and updates, follow the Rose Hip Facebook page @rosehipbakers. All proceeds benefit RDNA.

“During my career as a Social Worker, I did a lot of discharge planning with my patients, young and old, to assure their successful recovery at home,” said Anne Norman, RDNA Board Secretary, in a news release. “For many, especially the elderly, RDNA nursing visits are key to catching health issues early and addressing them safely in the home. When these nursing services aren’t available, minor concerns often blossom into major medical problems and the patient is back being shuffled between the hospital and nursing home. RDNA care has a direct impact on preventing unnecessary hospitalizations. Baking for RDNA is a way for us to support and contribute to our local agency. Every bakery item is truly made from the heart.”

Since 1929, RDNA has provided non-acute, in-home nursing services for area residents living independently, today predominantly seniors and medically vulnerable neighbors.  RDNA does not receive Medicare, MaineCare or insurance reimbursements, relying on community donations for the largest source of operating income.
