BELFAST — The 2024 Maine Wienerfest, a celebration of dachshunds and the people who love them, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine, at the Steamboat Landing Park, 34 Commercial St., in Belfast, Maine. Gates open at 10:30 a.m.

“Maine Wienerfest originated twenty years ago as an informal picnic and gathering for families who lived with these adorable, loveable tiny dogs,” said a news release.

Gradually, it grew to include other activities with the number of dogs and dog lovers increasing each year. The event is now organized by PAWS Animal Adoption Center, a nonprofit animal shelter offering dogs and cats for adoption and a PAWS Cares Community Veterinary clinic.

“This highly anticipated community event in Belfast is a day of pure canine delight for dogs and their human companions,” said the release.

Some of the activities and entertainment include a Grand Parade of Dachshunds, a Dachshund Canine Costume Contest, Doxie Derby and a wannabe race for dogs that want to join in the fun.

There will be a sales tent selling PAWS Wienerfest merchandise and Raffle opportunities to win prizes, including a professional pet portrait session, treats from Dogs on Dough, “Day in Belfast Gift Basket”, Wienerfest Merchandise Gift Basket, Dog Gift Basket and a tabletop Weber Grill. Pet Care by An array of local vendors will be selling food treats, a variety of merchandise, including an assortment of pet-themed items. We invite everyone to come and join us for a day filled with fun, frolic, and unforgettable memories,” said Wienerfest chair Valery Riemer.
